Where is the MAE Machine Shop located?
The MAE Machine Shop is located in Toomey Hall. For safety reasons, please check in with the shop manager in room 148 Toomey Hall before entering the shop area.
What are the shop hours of operation?
The shop generally operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Please note that hours may vary based on staff availability and campus schedules.
Who can use the MAE Machine Shop?
The Machine Shop is primarily available to Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering students, faculty, and staff. However, other departments may request services if time and resources allow.
How do I submit a work order?
All jobs are processed through our online Work Order System. You will need to provide details such as the scope of work, material requirements, and any supporting drawings or CAD files.
Do I need a MOCODE or payment?
There are no fees for most services. However, research-related projects must include a valid MOCODE for record-keeping. Any special material purchases require approval from the MOCODE owner.
Where do I pick up my completed parts?
Once your work order is complete, you will receive an email notification. Parts are typically available for pickup in room 150 Toomey Hall (the Electronics/Tech Shop).
Can I bring my own materials?
Yes, but please discuss it with the shop manager first to ensure the materials are suitable for our equipment and processes. The shop may also have recommendations for alternative materials if needed.
Can I speak directly with a machinist?
The machine shop is a restricted area requiring PPE. If you need a machinist’s input on a design, please consult the shop manager in room 148 Toomey Hall first. They will arrange a meeting if necessary.
What if I need design assistance?
Students are expected to do most of their design work, but the shop manager can help with conceptual ideas. If your project requires more in-depth consultation, schedule a meeting to discuss your design and feasibility.
